What research has led to this request?
This change is to make the honors curriculum more possible for students who come in with the Core waived, or most of their Core completed through AP and dual-enrollment. The honors-only courses are designed to also count in the Core, but if the student already has those Core requirements met, the honors-only course is an extra requirement that many students, especially degree-in-three students, do not have the space for in their schedules. This will give honors students more flexibility in choosing their 24 credits of honors courses.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
The impact would be spread out over all departments, as students who take fewer honors-only courses would take more honors-by-special-arrangement courses. However, these are courses that the students would be taking anyway, usually in their major.
