ELS Language Center

ELS Language Center offers exceptional cultural and language skill development for non-native speakers of English

Focus of the ELS-Myrtle Beach Program at Coastal Carolina University

The ELS Language Program at Coastal Carolina University offers intensive English language instruction for non-native speakers of English. The center operates year-round and instruction is offered in four-week sessions. Classes are scheduled for Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-3:45 p.m. and Fridays, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for each session. There are different types of programs such as the EAP (English for Academic Purposes), SEM (Semi-Intensive) and the ACP (American Explorer Program). Only the first two qualify students for an F-1 visa. The EAP program prepares students whose first language is not English to enter the university system. As a student enters into the program, he/she is tested and placed. After the session is completed (four weeks later), he/she is tested again to determine advancement. Students in the ELS@CCU program live in apartment residences on campus or nearby or with host families in the community. ELS students are encouraged to participate in the more than 200 student organizations on campus and in the dynamic and active learning communities, cultural programs, and other campus facilities just like degree-seeking CCU students, except that they are ineligible for NCAA sports or for membership in fraternities and sororities.

Location of the Center
