Boren Scholarships
Boren Scholarships are supported by the National Security Education Program and provide support for studying critical languages and in countries less commonly studied in by US students in support of national security. Winners of these scholarships are expected to commit to public service for a designated period of time post-award as a part of the terms of their award. As programs strive to support cultural and linguistic immersion, applications that are for 2 semesters or longer are most competitive.
Grant Amounts vary with Maximum Scholarship awards:
- $8,000 for a summer program (special initiative for STEM students only; 8 weeks minimum)
- $10,000 for a semester
- $20,000 for a 6-12 months
