$500,000 ARGUS software gift benefits CCU real estate students in workshop series

October 24, 2018

Conway, SC - Altus Group has partnered with the Coastal Carolina University’s E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration to provide educational access to its software for a professional development workshop series hosted by the college’s Grant Center for Real Estate and Economics.

The commercial real estate valuation software, considered the highest industry standard used by institutional commercial real estate investors, is valued at $500,000 and will be available for up to 50 student users for the 2018-2019 academic year. ARGUS Enterprise is the leading valuation software in the real estate industry that aims to maximize asset values and investment returns.

Students, faculty and other area professionals attended the first workshop on Saturday, Oct. 20, to gain hands-on experience with ARGUS Enterprise. Attendees created forecasting models for real estate investment valuations, produced reports such as debt and equity placements and tenant rollovers, and learned how to interpret the reports to make investment decisions.

“I thought the workshop was great. The program certainly seems like it could be a valuable asset in my career as a realtor,” said Dimitri Bramwell, a student officer of the CCU Real Estate Club.

“The event was a wonderful way to link the robust education we get in the classroom with real-life applications,” said student attendee Patrick Dempsey, a Grant Center Scholar and Wall Fellow. “Being able to network with local real estate professionals was also great, allowing me the opportunity to expand my professional network.”

Professionals from firms such as E.F. Hucks and Associates and SiteTech Systems also found value in the workshop.

“It’s was a great benefit to our company that the Grant Center provided a quality class on such a widely recognized valuation tool,” said Dave Curry, MAI, a commercial real estate consultant and appraiser at E.F. Hucks. “We look forward to the next opportunity to add additional tools to our tool box alongside Grant Center students.”

ARGUS Enterprise will be incorporated into the Grant Center’s professional workshop series for the remainder of the 2018-2019 academic year as it develops hands-on professional skills necessary for students to gain a competitive advantage in their commercial real estate careers.

“The Argus workshop gives students a hands-on experience with leading professional software used by thousands of real estate firms throughout the world,” said Robert Salvino, Ph.D., director of the Grant Center for Real Estate and Economics and professor of economics at CCU.

“As an added benefit, students are working side-by-side with real estate professionals in the workshops. This shows them the real-world value and also allows professionals to see the exceptional programming our students receive, increasing the likelihood they will look to these students for future job openings,” he said.
