Information for Students and Advisors
To graduate from the Honors College, a student must complete a total of at least 24 credits of Honors courses, with at least a grade of ‘B’ in each. An Honors Thesis or Project is required of each student, as is a public presentation of that work. To remain in good academic standing within the Honors College, students must maintain the following standards: After completing 30 credit hours, a student must have a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA and have completed at least 3 honors credit hours. After completing 60 credit hours, a student must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and have completed at least 9 honors credit hours. After completing 90 credit hours, a student must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and have completed at least 15 honors credit hours.
Students entering the University in 2018 and afterwards must successfully complete four Honors-only courses (with the HONR prefix or selected Honors-only classes from other academic departments) including at least three credits at the 300-level. Most Honors-only courses also count in the Core Curriculum. The remaining Honors credits may be taken through upper level “Honors by Special Arrangement” courses which are usually, but not necessarily, in the student’s major. These remaining Honors credits include the capstone course where the student completes the Honors thesis or project. Elaborations on these requirements can be found in the resource documents below.
Students entering the University in previous years should refer to their Catalog for the exact requirements and to the documents below for elaboration.
