Communication, Concentration in Sports Communication

In the Sports Communication concentration, students build an understanding of the multiple ways to analyze, critique, and transform sport within the U.S. and internationally. Focusing on the local, regional, state, national, and global levels of sport, students learn about gender, race, disability, nationality, ethnicity, and other identity factors that influence sport participation, sports media representations, leadership in sport, sport policy, and sport organizational practices. Through their coursework and internship, students become equipped to work in a diverse and global workforce, and to successfully communicate interpersonally, publicly, and through multiple media platforms, including social media. Upon completion of the program, students will have developed the skills to work within various communication intensive roles within the sports industry, including those within youth, intramural, college, and professional sports.
