COOL Marketing Grants

Call for Proposals AY 2016/17

To support targeted efforts of academic units to enroll qualified students in online graduate and undergraduate programs, the Office of the Provost and the Office of Online Learning are pleased to announce the second annual COOL Marketing Grant opportunity, funded entirely by distance learning fees and designed as a reinvestment strategy to support continuous sustainable enrollments in online programs.


Upon approval, college accounts will be reimbursed up to $5,000 per program for marketing and promotional activities specific to online programs, such as digital branding consultation services; advertisements in professional publications; development of online gateway curricula (such as MOOCs); travel and registration fees for vendor booths at conferences or other professional events having strong recruitment potential and professional event sponsorship, including promotional items for on-site; program brochures; program exhibit panels; and related activities with sufficient justification for cost coverage.


      1. Eligibility- All Deans are eligible to apply on behalf of their respective colleges for existing online programs or new online programs approved through CHE and SACSCOC.
      2. Timeline- Applications must be submitted to the Office of the Provost by 5:00 p.m., October 28th.The University Distance Learning Committee will review all complete applications and make recommendations to the Provost, the VP for Online Education and Teaching Excellence, and the Director of COOL. Notification of awards will be sent from the Provost’s office no later than November 11th, 2016.

        • Reimbursement Deadline is May 19, 2016
        • Report due on August 4, 2016
      3. Applicationa Process- COOL Marketing Grant applications are attached. The deadline for application submission to the Office of the Provost is 5:00 p.m., October 28, 2016.
      4. Review Creteria- All proposed marketing activities on the application form must be prioritized to include a rationale detailing specific outcomes relevant to articulated online program recruitment goals.
      5. Expectations- College Deans are responsible for oversight and accountability of all initiatives relevant to approved proposals, to include the following:
        • Purchasing services or equipment through University Procurement
        • Coordinating the development of materials through University Communications
        • Identifying faculty responsible for online gateway curriculum development (such as MOOCs) and defining the compensation model.
        • Submitting the Request for Reimbursement paperwork to COOL
        • Submitting a report estimating ROI to the Provost’s office by August 1, 2016
