Biography
Aneilya K. Barnes, associate professor of history, joined the faculty of Coastal Carolina University in 2007. Barnes earned both a bachelor's degree in history and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Arkansas Tech University in 2000. In addition, she earned a master's degree in history from Arkansas Tech University in 2002 before going on to earn a doctorate in history from the University of Arkansas.

She has published on gender and the early church, and her research focuses on the Christianization of ancient Rome, particularly through the lens of early Christian architecture. In addition to articles and book reviews, she is currently working on her manuscript, Gender and Domestic Space in the First Christian Basilicas.

Her areas of expertise include the history of early Christianity, imperial Rome and the early Islamic world.
