Martha S. Hunn
Media relations, copywriting, organizational leadership, public speaking, broadcast journalism, corporate communication, on-camera presenting, on-camera coaching
Martha Hunn serves as associate vice president of University Communication at Coastal Carolina University. In this role, Hunn leads a team including media relations professionals, writers/editors, videographers and digital news journalists. She joined CCU as director of news and public affairs on April 13, 2009. Prior to joining the University, Hunn was evening news anchor for WBTW News 13 in Myrtle Beach and also served as CEO of a nonprofit trade association. Hunn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Coastal Carolina University and a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Southern New Hampshire University.
In August of 2009, Hunn was named 2008 South Carolina Television Anchor of the Year by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association. Following that event, Horry County Council proclaimed Sept. 2, 2008 as "Martha Hunn Day."
In 2001, South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges awarded Hunn with the Order of the Silver Crescent, the highest honor awarded to a S.C. citizen for community service. Hunn was also honored by the Conway Education Foundation with the 2008 Hall of Fame Outstanding Alumnus award. In 2008, the Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina recognized Hunn as a Mary Dean Brewer Woman of Distinction.
Hunn was awarded the 2007 National Shag Dance Championship's Shagging with the Stars Grand Prize, the NAACP Public Relations/Communication award, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Distinguished Citizen Award, the Myrtle Beach Optimist Club Citizen of the Year award and numerous awards for communications publications. In 2006, Hunn served as chair of the American Red Cross Heroes Campaign, leading teams to raise more than $80,000 for the organization.
Hunn served as CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association from 1995 to 2005. In that capacity, she led customer service training seminars for hospitality industry members. As a faculty member of the Virtual University of Orlando, Hunn traveled numerous times to locations in Brazil, teaching destination marketing and leadership seminars to thousands of Brazilians in the hospitality industry. She also served as a faculty member for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management, teaching crisis communication strategies to trade association leaders from across the U.S.
A graduate of Conway High School and of Coastal Carolina University, Hunn has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. She is also a graduate of the CEO track of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management. Recently, Martha earned her Master of Science degree in organizational leadership from Southern New Hampshire University.
Hunn and her husband Ralph live in Myrtle Beach. Their daughter Brigitte lives in Wilmington, N.C.
