Charmaine Tomczyk joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 1978 as the head of the library's technical services department, subsequently held various positions at Coastal, and retired as Librarian Emerita in December 2012. She currently works part-time as the University's first Faculty Ombuds. (www.coastal.edu/ombuds) She is a certified organizational ombudsman practitioner CO-OP by the International Ombudsman Association.
Positions Tomczyk has held in the past at Coastal include faculty senate chair in 1992, associate vice president for academic affairs from 1995 to 2002, associate dean of the library, and director for undergraduate research. She has also served as CCU Omicron Delta Kappa faculty secretary 2005 - 2012, director of Coastal's campus wide Celebration of Inquiry conference, 2004-2011 and currently serves on the Board of the Women in Philanthropy and Leadership as Chair of its Scholarship Committee.
She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut in English and a master's degree in library science from Southern Connecticut State University. She worked at various libraries within Yale University before coming to Coastal. She worked part-time as the University's first Faculty Ombuds. (www.coastal.edu/ombuds) and was an Organizational Ombudsman Practitioner CO-OP TM certified by the International Ombudsman Association. She currently serves as Director of the CCU History Project that works to collect, organize and preserve materials of significance related to the universityâ€™s history.
