L. Taylor Damonte, director of the Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism and professor of resort tourism management, joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 1998. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of New Orleans, a master's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Ph. D. from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Following his undergraduate studies, Damonte went on to become a Certified Hotel Administrator, managing both hotels and restaurants in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area. He is the principle investigator on the "Tourism Economy Study," a weekly analysis of tourism business performance in the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina. Damonte co-authors a monthly column called "Pulse of the Strand," currently appearing in the Myrtle Beach Herald: Business Journal. He has also taught and/or conducted hospitality and tourism research at the University of South Carolina and on temporary assignments for schools in Ecuador, Panama, Slovakia and Germany.
