Steven Madden, professor of communications and chair of the Department of Communication, joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 2007. He earned a bachelor's degree in mass communication from the University of South Florida, a master's degree in conflict management and training and development from New Mexico State University and a Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Madden worked for NBC TV and for radio stations in Fairbanks, Ala., where he covered the Iditarod and other events.
Madden spent 10 years at Clemson University helping to build a communication program as well as two years at Appalachian State University revising the organizational communication concentration. He has held officer positions with the National Communication Association, Southern States Communication Association and the Carolinas Communication Association.
His areas of expertise include communication audits, organizational cultural ethnographies, service learning, conflict, negotiation and mediation.
