Steve Bailey, artist in residence/associate professor, joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 2004. He earned a bachelor's degree in studio music and jazz from the University of Miami, with additional study at the University of North Texas.
A partial list of his performance credits includes recording and/or touring with artists such as Jethro Tull, Paquito D'Rivera, Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Lew Tabackin, Dave Leibman, Michel Camilo, the Rippingtons, David Benoit, Kilauea, Jon Anderson, Willie Nelson, Ray Price, Billy Joe Shaver, Larry Carlton, Emily Remler, Kitaro, Mel Torme and Johnny Witherspoon.
He was twice recognized as runner-up Bass Player of the Year by Bass Player Magazine and is featured on many recordings and DVD's, including three solo CD's, the most recent being SO LOW.... SOLO. Bailey was a faculty member at the Bass Institute of Technology for more than 10 years. He is an advisory board member for Bass Player Magazine and has been featured in music magazines around the world.
Bailey is considered a pioneer of the six-string fretless bass and founded the innovative two bass group, Bass Extremes, with Victor Wooten.
