Terry F. Pettijohn II, professor of psychology, joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 2008. He grew up in Ohio and attended The Ohio State University as an undergraduate, earning a bachelor of science degree in psychology in 1995. Pettijohn earned his master of science (1997) and doctorate (1999) degrees in social psychology from the University of Georgia. He regularly teaches courses in research methodology and social psychology. Pettijohn conducts research in the areas of interpersonal attraction, relationships, the teaching of psychology and how environmental conditions influence social preferences.
Pettijohn has published over 40 scholarly articles in journals such as Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, the Journal of Social Psychology, Media Psychology, Psychology of Music and the Psychology of
Popular Media Culture. His research has also been covered in the media by MSNBC, CNN, Discovery Channel, NPR, NY Times, Chicago Tribune, BBC, Rolling Stone Magazine, Newsweek, the Rachel Maddow Show, South Carolina Education Radio, and others. Pettijohn is a member of the Association for Psychological Science, the Society of Personality and Social Psychology and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology.
