John W. Mortimer, associate professor of accounting, joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 2009. He attended Hillsborough Community College and Northwestern State University Louisiana before earning a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Florida. He attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and earned a master's information/systems certificate from the University of Southern California. He earned a master's degree from Boston University and a doctorate in accounting from Florida Atlantic University. His research interests include earnings management, governmental accounting and contracting.
Mortimer authored "Executive Incentives and the Horizon Problem: CEO Departure Revisted," which was published in the Palmetto Review, and "Bond Valuation: An Easier and more Insightful Approach," which was published in the Journal of Theoretical Accounting Research in 2006.
He is currently researching "Obstacles to Successful Financial Management Information System Implementation in Conflict Zones: The Case of Iraq" and "Challenges to Iraq's Political Stability."
His areas of expertise include governmental accounting, cost accounting, federal contracting, federal budgeting and critical thinking.
