Jose H. Sanjines, associate professor of foreign languages, joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 1996. He earned a master's degree in Spanish and a doctorate from Syracuse University. His research focuses on Latin American culture and civilization, women writers in Latin America today, Latin American literature in translation, new Latin American cinema, approaches to literature and culture, and semiotics of verbal and visual art.
He has published numerous articles in journals such as Semiotica, Sign System Studies, The American Journal of Semiotics, The Interdisciplinary Journal for Germanic Linguistics and Semiotic Analysis, Semiotics and Point of Contact. He is the author of poetry, fiction, children's books and "Paseos en el horizonte: Fronteras semi√≥ticas en los relatos de Julio CortŠzar," a book on the work of Argentine writer Julio CortŠzar.
His areas of expertise include modern Latin American narrative and poetry, Latin American cultural and intellectual history, foreign language pedagogy, linguistics and semiotics, film studies, and literature of the Spanish Golden Age.
