Carolyn D. Dillian is chair of the Department of Anthropology and Geography at Coastal Carolina University and an associate professor of archaeology. Previously, she served as a postdoctoral lecturer in the interdisciplinary writing program and an associated faculty member of the Department of Anthropology at Princeton University. Dillian earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology with a minor in American civilization and a master's degree in anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. She earned a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dillianï¿½s research interests include prehistoric archaeology, environmental change and cultural adaptation, archaeological geochemistry, stone tools, trade and exchange, and cultural resource management (CRM). She has taught numerous courses including introductory-level classes in anthropology and archaeology, as well as specialized courses such as lithic analysis, cultural resource management, archaeological laboratory methods, and archaeological field schools, among others.
Dillian has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Archaeology of Eastern North America, North American Archaeologist, and the Journal of Middle Atlantic Archaeology. She has recently published an edited volume entitled Trade and Exchange: Archaeological Studies from Prehistory and History, as well as contributing chapters to several other books. She has presented nationally and internationally at conferences, meetings, symposiums and workshops. Dillian is also a member of numerous professional organizations including the Society for American Archaeology, the International Association for Obsidian Studies, and the Eastern States Archaeological Federation.
