Stephanie Southworth, Ph.D., is a lecturer in sociology, and joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 2016. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She earned a Ph.D. in Public policy at UNCC in 2008.
She teaches introductory sociology, social problems, demography, sociology of education, urban sociology, inequality and deviance. Her research focuses on social inequalities. She has several publications in the field of sociology of education. Currently, she is interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning---specifically applied sociology related to social justice issues. She regularly presents her research at the annual meetings of the Society for the Study of Social Problems, the Southern Sociological Association and the South Carolina Sociological Association.
