College of Science
Erin Burge, professor of marine science, joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 2006. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington in 1996 and a Ph.D. from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science at the College of William & Mary.
Burge is developing a research program that applies molecular and cellular techniques to field-oriented problems in an ecological context. He has authored numerous publications and has produced many publications in the field of marine science.
His areas of expertise include environmental immunology, molecular physiology and the molecular biology of marine invertebrates and fishes. He is specifically interested in hypotheses concerning gene expression in disease pathogenesis, host resistance, host/pathogen interactions and environmental influences on gene expression.
