Carol Osborne, associate dean, joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 2002. She earned a master's degree in English education from the University of North Carolina in 1978, and a master's degree and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia in 1998.
Before coming to Coastal, Osborne taught English at Murray State University, where she also served as director of Humanities. At Coastal, she has provided in-service workshops for teachers in Georgetown and Horry counties and for Coastal faculty members. Aside from presenting on her own at state, national and international professional conferences, Osborne has also published articles in Signs, LIT: Literature, Interpretation and Theory, and Frontiers. In 2007, she was chosen, along with 19 other professors from across the nation, to attend the Freeman Institute on Japan Studies, and in 2009, she was awarded a fellowship for the Fulbright-Hayes Seminars Abroad Program in China. In May of 2011, she moved from being Chair of English to serving as the Associate Dean for the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.
Her areas of expertise include English education, literacy, diversity, contemporary literature and adolescent literature.
