Comedian Gary Owen, one of the hosts for Black Entertainment Television’s (BET) “Comic View,” will perform at Coastal Carolina University Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Owen, who is white, was voted “Funniest Black Comedian in San Diego” and competed against 44 other contestants to win the hosting spot on BET’s “Comic View.” He is probably best known for his role as the dancing “Mr. Broccoli” in the movie “Daddy Day Care” with Eddie Murphy, and as the redneck deputy in the film “Held Up” with Jamie Foxx.

Owen has made numerous appearances on Comedy Central, as well as hosting MUN2’s hit comedy show “Loco Comedy Jam.” He recently released his first comedy CD, “Live from Tampa,” and his first comedy DVD, “Breakin Out The Park.”

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Owen enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school and was chosen for the prestigious Presidential Honor Guard. During his stint in the Navy he began developing his comedy act and went on to be named the “Funniest Serviceman in America.”
