Coastal Carolina published professor to give reading

Eileen Joy will give a reading on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 4 p.m. in Wall Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University. The event is part of a series titled “The Writer’s Series: Faculty Showcase.” The reading is free and open to the public.

Joy, assistant professor of English, will read from a novel in progress titled, “The Ethics Professor: A Fable for Children.” She teaches courses at Coastal in creative writing and British literature, and is currently working on two scholarly books, both to be published in 2006: “The Postmodern Beowulf,” forthcoming from West Virginia University Press, and “Reality, Television, and the Middle Ages,” forthcoming from Palgrave/Macmillan.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in fiction writing from Virginia Commonwealth University and a doctorate in medieval literature from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She has published short fiction and poetry in “New Virginia Review,” “The Sun,” “Black Warrior Review” and “Sou'wester,” among other journals.
