Coastal Carolina to host an evening of German songs

February 20, 2006

For the second straight year, Coastal Carolina University will host “Liederabend,” an evening of German songs, on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 in Wheelwright Auditorium.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature Coastal students, faculty and guests performing German music and songs from the 18th and 19th centuries. Members of the voice faculty and the CCU Concert Choir will perform during the show.

The artists will also share stories about the composers and poets who played a prominent role during that time period. The “evening of song” is traditional to Austria and Germany and is usually held in people’s homes.

Works by German composers Schubert, Schumann, Strauss and others will be performed. The concert choir will sing selections from the Liebeslieder Waltzes by Brahms with special guests playing piano.
