CCU Lifelong Learning offers Spanish courses this spring

Coastal Carolina University will offer five noncredit Spanish language courses in the upcoming weeks at its Myrtle Beach, Waccamaw and Georgetown higher education centers. For more information or to register call 349-4001 (Conway and Myrtle Beach), 349-4032 (Georgetown and Waccamaw) or visit www.coastal.edu/outreach. The following courses are scheduled:

Spanish: Conversation I: Whether you are planning a trip or simply want to brush up on your conversational skills, this class will teach language skills that will enable you to respond to real life situations. Instructor: Susana Gabbi-Russell. Fee: $110.

Georgetown: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 28 to March 28, 2 to 4 p.m.

Waccamaw: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 28 to March 28, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Spanish: The Next Step: This class, described as a “painless approach to grammar,” is for those who are speaking in the present tense and are ready for the next level. Learn expressions with the verb “tener” and “gustar” and more. Textbook included. Instructor: Susana Gabbi-Russell. Fee: $110.

Myrtle Beach: Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 27 to March 27, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Waccamaw: Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 27 to March 27, 1 to 3 p.m.

Georgetown: Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 30 to April 27, 2 to 4 p.m.

Waccamaw: Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 30 to April 27, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Spanish: Conversation II: Reinforce your conversation by building your vocabulary, improving listening comprehension, and perfecting pronunciation ... all while having fun! Focus will be on reading comprehension and role-playing. Instructor: Susana Gabbi-Russell. Fee: $110. Waccamaw: Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 27 to March 27, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Spanish Plus: Review the preterit tense and refresh your skills using the past tense. Learn the regular and irregular forms and review direct object pronouns, command forms and more. Instructor: Susana Gabbi-Russell. Fee: $110.

Myrtle Beach: Mondays and Wednesdays, March 29 to April 26, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Waccamaw: Mondays and Wednesdays, March 29 to April 26, 1 to 3 p.m.

Command Spanish® Workplace Spanish: This course, designed to bridge the language gap in the workplace, teaches ONLY the Spanish you need in order to survive and communicate in a particular work setting. The content of each program is specifically targeted to your type and place of employment and your daily work conversation. The focus of each class is on specific vocabulary (terms) and statements used in your actual work environment and on how to speak correctly with proper pronunciation. No prior knowledge of Spanish is necessary. Contact us for dates of classes this spring in occupations such as firefighter, law enforcement, secretarial, social work, restaurant, education, nursing, banking, hotel/motel, golf course maintenance and much more.
