CCU saxophone ensemble presents spring concert

For its annual spring concert, Coastal Carolina University’s student saxophone ensemble will present a diverse program highlighting composers from Charlie Parker to George Frideric Handel. The event, which is free, is scheduled for Thursday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal.

The ensemble, featuring 10 saxophonists and a pianist and drummer, will perform standards such as “Night Train,” “Spain” and Charlie Parker’s “Ornithology” as well as the James Bond theme and an arrangement of the “Hallelujah” chorus.

Dan O’Reilly, a teaching associate at Coastal who performs in various bands and orchestras around the Grand Strand, directs the band.
