Stringer appointed to CCU's board of trustees

Greenville businessman Tommy M. Stringer has been appointed to Coastal Carolina University's Board of Trustees.

Stringer is the principal shareholder of Stringer & Company Inc. Pension Services, a consulting and administration firm specializing in the design and implementation of qualified retirement plans. He is a native of Greenville and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Bob Jones University in 1989. While a graduate student at Clemson University, he was hired by a local pension actuarial firm in 1991 and started his own consulting firm in 2000. Stringer has earned various professional designations granted by the American Society of Pension Actuaries (ASPA). He is married to the former Carrie C. Cureton, and they have one child, Montgomery.

Coastal's Board of Trustees has 17 members. Fifteen are elected by the General Assembly (two from each Congressional District and three from the state at large). The Governor appoints two members, the appointee and the designee.

The other members of the board of trustees are: Charles J. Hodge of Spartanburg, chair; Daniel W.R. Moore Sr. of North Myrtle Beach, vice chairman; Samuel H. Frink, secretary/treasurer; William H. “Billy” Alford of Myrtle Beach; Robert D. Brown of Camden; Joseph L. Carter of Myrtle Beach; Fred F. DuBard Jr. of Florence; James F. Kane of Columbia; William L. Lyles Jr. of Anderson; Clark B. Parker of Myrtle Beach; Robert L. Rabon of Conway; Oran P. Smith of Leesville; Eugene C. Spivey of Myrtle Beach; and Samuel J. Swad of Gaffney.

The board will have its regular meeting on Friday, May 5.
