The 282nd Army "Victory" Band of Fort Jackson will perform in Wheelwright Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public but tickets are required.

Founded in 1869, the "Victory" Band earned battle streamers for serving in the Indian Wars, the Philippine Insurrection and World War II. The primary mission of the band is to promote readiness and perform music that maintains the morale and esprit de corps of the soldiers stationed at Ft. Jackson.

The "Victory" Band, compromised of 40 professional soldier/musicians, has various performing groups. The Concert Band's repertoire consists of contemporary and popular literature, solo features with band accompaniment, classical transcriptions and novelty numbers. The Stage Band performs standard swing, jazz, blues, Latin, and rock styles. The Jazz Combo and Brass Quintet are versatile groups that perform for many programs and ceremonies. The Marching Band performs standard military marches weekly, most notably at basic combat training graduations at Ft. Jackson.

Chief Warrant Officer Matthew C. Morse has been commander and conductor of the band since July of 2005. Prior to his current position, Morse led the 1st Armored Division Band in Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

1st Sgt. Renee J. Harvey, band first sergeant, has served with the 2nd Armored Division Band at Fort Hood and the 5th Army Band at Fort Sam,Texas, and deployed with the 4th Infantry Division Band to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Tickets for the performance must be picked up in person from Wheelwright Box Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or 90 minutes prior to the performance. Tickets are limited to two per person. For more information, call the Wheelwright Box Office at 349-2502.
