The Department of Music at Coastal Carolina University presents Gerhard Siegel, award-winning German operatic tenor, in concert on the Wheelwright stage on Friday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m. The program consists of a variety of work from Siegel's prestigious operatic tenure.

Siegel's CCU performance occurs just two days after his final run as the Captain in Alban Berg's operatic masterpiece "Wozzeck," at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The New Yorker praised Siegel in his performance for his "cartoonish flair and precisely biting diction."

Siegel began his career as a composer and an instrumentalist, and his prolific work as a tenor includes a contract at the Nuremberg Theater from 1999-2006, where he won special acclaim in the title role of "Siegfried." Siegel has been a freelance singer since 2006, touring the globe with operatic performances in Berlin, Vienna, London, Tokyo, Zurich, Boston, and New York.

Later this year, Siegel will tour Europe for numerous performances in Berlin at the Berlin Staatsoper, Paris at the Opera Bastille and the Opera Paris, and in Dresden at the Semperoper.

General admission is $17 with discounted prices at $12 for CCU/HGTC faculty/staff, senior citizens, OLLI members, alumni, and teens. Visit tickets.coastal.edu or 843-349-ARTS (2787) for more information.
