In response to the current need in the medical community for protective equipment, Coastal Carolina University has put its 3D printers on campus to work.

Those printers are producing masks that can be used by medical personnel as they give care to those infected by COVID-19.

This effort is part of a collaboration with The Citadel to benefit the Medical University of South Carolina. The connection with The Citadel was forged by Conway resident West Courtney, who is a senior at The Citadel, and CCU Board of Trustees member Will Turner.

CCU President David A. DeCenzo is encouraging all other colleges and universities in South Carolina to join the effort.

"This partnership shows the creativity and willingness of our faculty and staff to help out the community," said DeCenzo. "I only hope all South Carolina universities join us in producing this vitally needed medical equipment."
