CCU Career Services partners with CareerEco for Southern Alliance Virtual Career Fair

June 2, 2020

The Career Services department at Coastal Carolina University has joined 19 other universities by partnering with the Southern Alliance Virtual Career Fair, which takes place June 16 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those students and alumni who are interested in participating must pre-register for this free event at CareerEco.com/Events/SouthernAlliance.

"CCU is fortunate to provide our students and alumni with the opportunity to engage the Southern Alliance Virtual Career Fair on June 16," said Verne Walker, director of Career Services. "This event is a collaboration of 20 colleges and universities in the southern region."

More than 100 employers are already registered, and some of the participating employers include:

- Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM)

- Fidelity Investments

- GE

- Charter Schools USA

- Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory

- Peace Corps

- U.S. Secret Service

- U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

- St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

- AmeriCorps

- Association of American Schools in South America (AASSA)

- Youth Villages

The virtual fair has room for an unlimited number of employers and an unlimited number of attendees. The fair is open to current CCU students and alumni. Previous fairs hosted by CareerEco have hosted nearly 200 employers.

Career Services hosted its own virtual career fair in late April that was well-attended and featured both local and national employers. Several students who took advantage of the opportunity had interviews lined up afterward as a result.

"It's important for participants to upload their resumes when they pre-register," said Yvette Jefferson, employment recruiter specialist for Career Services at CCU. "We had great results from employers following up with students after our virtual career fair by using resumes they uploaded at registration. They followed up and scheduled interviews after they had time to review them all."

Career Services team members continue to serve students and alumni via virtual appointments, workshops, events, and social media engagement to assist them as they prepare for the career fair and continue on their career and graduate school journeys.

Other upcoming Career Services events include a virtual resume workshop on June 9 at 4 p.m. and a job search strategies seminar on June 11 at 4 p.m. Students and alumni can take advantage of these events to prepare for the virtual career fair, said Walker.

Career Services is also providing career counseling, college major consultations, help with resume and cover letter development, mock interviews, and interview preparation, and all CCU students and alumni have access to online resources like Handshake, CareerShift, and Big Interview.

CCU students and alumni can call 843-349-2341 or email career@coastal.edu to schedule an online appointment between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday at 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Visit coastal.edu/career for more information.
