“Remember, it's all about the students.”

These are the words Pat Singleton-Young wants faculty, staff and administration to take to heart as she retires from a 38-year career at Coastal Carolina University.

Singleton-Young, known by her students as Ms. Pat, started her career at Coastal after graduation in 1975 as the assistant director for student activities. She has served in multiple roles during her tenure, including academic adviser, assistant dean of student services and interim director of residence life.

She concludes her career as the director for Multicultural Student Services, and one of the last things she did in that role was to change the name of the department to Intercultural and Inclusion Student Services.

To honor Singleton-Young and her decades of commitment to the University and its students, the board of trustees voted in May to name a residence hall in her honor.

“Ms. Pat's impact on the University has been far-reaching, and she has touched the lives of countless students,” said Travis Overton, chief of staff.
