Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies

Tuesday, Sept. 25, 5 p.m.
In Joshua Weinstein’s 2017 Yiddish language American drama that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, Menashe is a recently widowed Hasidic Jewish man attempting to regain custody of his 10-year-old son. In doing so, he works through cultural expectations and rituals to justify both his faith and his capability as a parent. The film will be shown in Yiddish with English subtitles.

Following the screening, Alan Todd, lecturer in CCU’s Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, will lead a discussion on cultural elements of Judaism (including parenting) and how they are conveyed in the film.
