Archaeology of Cities: Charleston, South Carolina
Thursday, Sept. 20, 5:15 p.m.
Martha Zierden, curator of historical archaeology at the Charleston Museum since 1985, will present a lecture on South Carolina’s oldest and largest city. Her presentation will summarize five decades of archaeological research, with a focus on the search for the early walled city and exploration of colonial markets. Highlights include fieldwork stories, discoveries big and small, museum and site-specific exhibitions, new interpretation and the future of curated collections. Zierden was instrumental in the early development of the anthropology program at the College of Charleston.
