In Ridley Scott's 1991 Academy Award-winning road film, Thelma (Geena Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon) are waitresses in Arkansas who set out on a weekend road trip to a fishing cabin. On the way, they encounter a string of characters and events, making decisions that empower them yet involve criminal activity; when they are finally cornered by police at the Grand Canyon, the female outlaws make a final decision together.

Following the screening, CCU assistant professor Christian Smith and associate professor Anna Oldfield, both of the Department of English, will lead a discussion on the genres of "road movie" and "buddy movie" in American film history and how this work fits and expands both genres.
