CeTEAL: Understanding and Building Assessment Rubrics for Core Courses Bookmark and Share

Dec 10

11 a.m. @ KRNS 210

This session will cover the background and development of the AAC&U Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education (VALUE) rubrics and how these are being used as part of student learning assessment in the new core curriculum. The session will introduce the CCU rubrics and is targeted to faculty teaching courses in the Core Curriculum, Department Chairs, and Assessment Coordinators. We will follow-up with hands-on work that will assist faculty in building assessment rubrics for Core courses, based on the VALUE rubrics. Rubrics will adapted to student artifacts in specific courses, while still providing data on student learning across the Core Goal area. Please bring a sample syllabus and/or requirements for one or more student assignments with you.
This is an essential session for anyone teaching or assessing the New Core Curriculum.

Participants will:
• Review the development of the VALUE rubrics
• Discuss the use of VALUE rubrics for student assessment in the new core curriculum
• Discuss assessment of student artifacts to provide data on student learning across a core goal
• Build an assessment rubric for an assignment based on the VALUE rubrics
