5 p.m. @ The Coastal Theater

Bob Fosse’s Cabaret (1972) takes place in 1931 Berlin during the Nazi uprising. Cambridge University student Brian Roberts befriends Sally, a singer at the Kit Kat Klub, a cabaret-style venue; Fritz, a poor student who wants to be a gigolo to live a comfortable life; and Natalia, a beautiful Jewish heiress. The film explores themes of sexuality, friendship and survival in an unstable and unpredictable world. Following the film, Ken Martin, professor and chair of the Department of Theatre, discusses the theatrical techniques and approaches in the film.
