Lecture: Medical Ethics: Respecting - But Sometimes Challenging - Patients' Values Bookmark and Share

Mar 28

4:30 p.m. @ Brittain Hall, Room 112
Free and open to the public

Daniel Brudney, professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Chicago, presents a lecture exploring medical ethics in relation to patients’ values. In American medicine, patients have the right to accept or refuse the medical care they are offered. If a patient refuses health care, clinicians often challenge their reasons and deem them to be foolish for refusing care. This lecture will consider whether, or when, it is appropriate for a clinician to question a patient’s decisions. Following the lecture, Brudney will lead an open discussion with the audience.
