May 9

8 p.m. @ Prince Lawn
Free and open to the public

South Carolina natives Quentin Baxter, Kevin Hamilton, Charlton Singleton and Clay Ross first came together in 1998 to form a Charleston jazz quartet. Now, united by years apart and deeper understanding of home, these accomplished artists have come together again to form Ranky Tanky. Joined by vocalist Quiana Parler, the soulful songs of Gullah culture are brought to life by this band that blends Lowcountry traditions with large doses of jazz, gospel, funk and R&B.

Ranky Tanky released its eponymous debut album in October 2017, and by December of that year it had reached the top of the Billboard, Amazon and iTunes jazz charts. The band has been featured on NPR programming “Fresh Air with Terry Gross” and “All Things Considered” as well as online publications Afropop Worldwide, Downbeat and Songlines Magazine. This concert is rescheduled from its original date in October 2018, which was canceled due to Hurricane Florence.

Rain location: Wheelwright Auditorium

Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and lawn blankets.
