"Ashes2Art: Computer reconstructions of ancient monuments in Greece and Egypt" Bookmark and Share

Feb 9

7:30 p.m. @ Waccamaw Higher Education Center

The Ashes2Art program, founded by directors Arne Flaten and Paul Olsen at CCU in 2005, has achieved international recognition for innovative use of technologies in the humanities. Ashes2Art was recently profiled by Campus Technology magazine as “inspiring a new kind of undergraduate education that is immersive, experiential, and contributive at the same time.” Over the next several years, CCU will work at archaeological sites at Lake Mareotis (west of Alexandria, Egypt) and along the Red Sea where students and faculty will collect GPS data, shoot high resolution digital panoramas, build an online database, digitally reconstruct various buildings and objects, and propose a computer visualization of the radical topographical changes to the area in the last two millennia. The lecture will provide an overview of the project, from conception to present.
