Poetry Reading: Natasha Trethewey and Jake Adam York

Thursday, March 29, 4 p.m.
Recital Hall, Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts

Prize winning poets Natasha Trethewey and Jake Adam York will give a joint poetry reading from their most recent collections, and Trethewey will read from her nonfiction book "Beyond Katrina: A Meditation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast." Trethewey and York are interested in issues of race and social justice, exploring the South’s troubled history of slavery, racial segregation and racially motivated violence through poems that engage both the authors’ personal experiences and the larger context of public history and memory. Tretheway won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, and York won the 2005 Elixer Prize for Poetry. For details about this event, please visit and
