Second Annual House Calls Bookmark and Share

Sep 9

6:30 p.m. @ first-year residence halls

House Calls is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. , bringing faculty and staff into the first-year residence halls to speak with residents. Each faculty and staff member will be paired with a Resident Assistant or Resident Director and will go door-to-door in a particular community to engage residents in conversation on a variety of topics. The primary focus will be the students’ experience at CCU to that point in the semester.

In its first year, the House Calls program had over 50 volunteers and interacted with over 900 first year students making this program a huge success.

University Housing’s mission is to create a foundation of care for resident safety and success. The Academic Success Committee was created to focus on that effort of bringing academics into residence halls and to ensure that learning and positive relationships with faculty are being developed inside and outside the classroom.

Research indicates that developing a positive connection with faculty and staff can make a significant difference to the first-year students’ experience impacting their satisfaction and, so it must follow, our ability to retain them to graduation.

We intend to create as many opportunities for this kind of interaction in the first six weeks of the semester as possible and House Calls is the primary example.
