1+2+1 BSN Program

1+2+1 Residential Nursing Program

The 1+2+1 Residential Nursing program is a collaborative program between Coastal Carolina University (CCU) and Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC). Students in this program are admitted to CCU and live in CCU's residence halls for their first and second years. Students in this program will attend classes at CCU for the first year. For the second and third years students in the 1+2+1 program will take classes at HGTC to earn an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in nursing and take the RN licensing exam. Students who successfully complete these steps will return to CCU for their senior year, taking classes to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.).

Participation in this R.N. to B.S.N. program is highly competitive. Students must meet all freshman entrance requirements and be admitted to CCU as first-time freshmen. The 1+2+1 program also requires that students have a minimum SAT score of 1100 (evidence-based reading and writing plus math) or a composite ACT score of 22.

The TEAS-V is an acceptable alternative to the ACT or SAT scores. The minimum eligibility requirement for TEAS-VII is a score of 75. After completing the AAS in nursing at HGTC, students will return to CCU and complete the remaining courses for the BSN degree.

APPLICATION TO THE 1+2+1 NURSING PROGRAM IS NOT TEST OPTIONAL

The program size is limited and fills early. Prospective students should apply by the January 15 priority application date. Students who accept an invitation to the program will be able to use CCU merit awards during their first year at CCU. However, students will not be able to use these benefits at HGTC, but may be eligible for merit awards from HGTC.

The student experience
  • Students live in Coastal Carolina University residence halls and enjoy all aspects of living on CCU's campus for their first and second years.
  • First year students will attend classes at CCU.
  • During the second and third years, students will complete general education classes on the HGTC Conway campus, which is adjacent to the CCU Campus. AAS nursing courses are conducted at HGTC's Grand Strand campus and local area health care institutions. The Grand Strand campus is 13.5 miles (21.7 km) from CCU's campus. 
  • Students complete the national licensing exam for nursing (NCLEX-RN) in the summer after completing the AAS degree, and begin the RN-to-BSN program at CCU in the fall of the fourth year.
  • Both the HGTC nursing program and the CCU B.S.N. completion program are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
