Distance Learning Policy

To ensure the highest quality of online instruction at Coastal Carolina University, our comprehensive Distance Learning Policy document articulates specific expectations intended to maximize the academic performance of online learning students and to guide faculty in best practices for design and support of their online learning classes. In addition to the DL Policy, the campus has formed a Distance Learning Committee to ensure quality and consistency in all online learning environments, curricula, and related initiatives. The committee recommends appropriate resources, including technology, services, and professional development to support distance learning.


The COOL Office conducts all Online and Hybrid course reviews for the campus, including both COOL Grant recipients and independent course reviews. While hybrid and online classes both have some of the same elements, there are some distinct differences between the two. A hybrid course is designed to integrate face-to-face and online activities so they reinforce and complement each other rather than treating the online component as a secondary web resource or duplicate what is taught in the classroom. Courses that are designated "hybrid" provide 51-99 percent of collective course instruction online. Online courses are taught 100 percent online and do not require any face-to-face meetings.
