    2019 News


    Thursday, May 16, 2019 is Global Accessibility Awareness Day! Be sure to follow us on social media to learn about some great accessibility tips for your online and hybrid courses. 


    2019 Moodle Enrollments

    Wondering when your students will be enrolled into your Moodle course for upcoming semesters? Student enrollments will take place on the following dates for the following semesters: Maymester Enrollment, May 8; Summer II Enrollment, June 6; Summer II Enrollment, July 11. 


    Ally is Coming to Campus!

    Ally will be coming to campus on April 8th and 9th to provide faculty, staff, and students information about the Ally tool. They will be on campus April 8th at 10 a.m. in Prince 209 to host a 90 minutes presentation for faculty and staff on the tool's functionality. They will also be hosting a Podcast from 11:45-1230 in Kearns 107 B. Ally will then return the following day, April 9th, to meet with students from 11:00-1:00 in LIBSU.

    Moodle Maintenance

    CCU's Learning Management System (LMS), Moodle, will have a mandatory performance maintenance on Friday, 08/17/18 between 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. EST. The system may be unavailable during this time.


    Moodle Upgrade!

    The Coastal Office of Online Learning is pleased to announced that Moodle will be upgraded to version 3.2.9 on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. The upgrade will provide several exciting enhancements and functionalities for students, faculty, and staff. Please see the Moodle Resources page for more deatails!


    CCU Ally Pilot Study

    Beginning Summer 2018, COOL will be hosting a Pilot Group to learn and use our newest digital accessibility tool, Ally. If you are interested in serving in our pilot group for the Summer or Fall 2018 terms, please complete all required fields in the form below.

    New online lecture capture training workshop coming in 2018!

    The Personal Lecture Capture for Online/Hybrid Classes is currently under development and will launch in February 2018. This new workshop covers the basics of personal lecture capture, from installation and usage of the software to examples of best practices in recording multimedia for online and hybrid courses.     The Coastal Office of Online Learning is proud to sponsor Coastal Carolina University's membership to the Online Learning Consortium (OLC). As a member of OLC, all CCU faculty and staff can now take advantage of great benefits and privileges. Our membership allows access to a number of free webinars and panel discussions on online higher education topics. There are also significant opportunities for peer networking with an international community of online learning educators, and early access to research and trends in online learning. Both faculty and staff are encouraged to take advantage of all materials and opportunities available to assist with course enhancement, best practices, and innovations for online teaching.     2017 News

    01/03/2017 Accessibility & Universal Design Lab; Captioning Initiative Launch Coming Soon
    The COOL department is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of captioning for multimedia (audio and video) as a service to faculty members teaching online, hybrid, and flex classes. More information will be provided soon. Faculty who have current courses for the SP17 and upcoming SUM17/FAL terms with relevant content and would like to add your name to the list for captioning may complete this form to be added to the alert list once this service goes live. We have a related UDI & Accessibility Workshop now offered that faculty are also encouraged to sign up for.

    3/3/2017 Captioning Initiative for Online & Hybrid Courses

    The Office of Online Learning is now providing FREE captioning services that allow your multimedia files to have captions added to your files. The process for submitting the files needing captioning is quite simply. Follow the steps below to start the process in making your multimedia files accessible to students. 

    1. Complete and submit the Google Form 

    2. COOL (Coastal Office of Online Learning) will follow up with you directly to obtain your multimedia files and to begin the captioning process.

    To mark the sixth Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Blackboard is promoting a free follow-the-sun series of webinars covering trending topics on digital access in education. Join Blackboard on Thursday, May 18th 2017, to discuss accessibility in Education, learn from your peers and share your ideas. For a list of free webinars being offered and to register, click here!

    5/9/2017 Course Enhancement Grant

    The Coastal Office of Online Learning (COOL) is pleased to announce the 1st round of the COOL Online Course Enhancement Grant (CEG) program to enhance the development of high quality online courses and programs for graduate and undergraduate students. This specific grant focuses on applying enhancements and updates to previously developed online courses, both those that have or have not undergone review under the COOL Course Development Programs.
