Coastal Fraternity & Sorority Life
The fraternity and sorority community currently encompasses more than 1,200 students which represents just about 15 percent of the undergraduate population; hence, fraternity and sorority life is incredibly dynamic at Coastal Carolina. As such, there are three main aspects of which great focus will be placed in order to build upon the solid foundation of the interfraternal membership experience at Coastal: community development, leadership and learning, and strategic planning.
Welcome from Fraternity & Sorority Life
Greetings and welcome to Coastal Carolina's Fraternity & Sorority Life homepage! We are very proud to have a strong community that offers a myriad of experiences for each member. We have trippled in size since 2013, and are still growing. It is our sincere hope that you will become part of our future and leave your legacy at Coastal Carolina.
Fraternity and Sorority Life advises three councils that govern our chapters. Each council has a different focal point, operational structure, and history.
There are a wealth of opportunities and activities going on every day of the semseter. Academically, fraternities and sororities are frequently above the all-university average, and members comprise the vast majority of leadership positions on campus. We raise large amounts of donations for an assortment of philanthropic causes; many of our chapters participate in community sevice projects throughout the year as well. There are educational programs, speakers, discussions, and a host of leadership opportunities to be had. You will have the ability to get involved in many aspects of campus life, including intramurals, academic support, cultural programming, personal and professional development, and leadership development. In short, Fraternity and Sorortiy Life offers a one-stop opportunity to experience every aspect of what Coastal Carolina University has to offer.
It is our hope that you take the time to research all that our chapters have to offer. With 16 chapters to choose from, you will certainly find a place to call home. Remember, fraternity and sorority membership is a life-long commitment- not just something you will experience during your undergraduate years. We hope to see you at our events and look forward to welcoming you into our family as we congratulate you on your memberhsip in one of our wonderful chapters. There is no time like the present o leave a legacy...GO GREEK!
Join a Fraternity/Sorority - Make Lifetime Friends
We are excited to introduce you to the lifetime experience of Fraternity and Sorority Life. With 16 fraternities and sororities, there's a wealth of opportunities to offer you. If you are an incoming freshman or transfer student, be on the lookout for Fraternity & Sorority Life at summer orientation. There, we will be hosting a late night activity, sponsoring a table at the information fair, and offering two back-to-back networking sessions about "Going Greek". Since we know "people join people" we will be providing a number of events in the fall semester that provide you with the opportunity to meet the members of our governing councils and organizations. On Wednesday, August 19th you can find all 16 of our fraternities and sororities at club recruitment day on prince lawn. Also on that Wednesday, the community will be hosting Greek 101 in Wheelwright Auditorium from 7-9 p.m. If that may feel overwhelming for you, simply come see us in the Student Union, Suite 201 or email email@example.com. Either way, we want to meet you!
IMPACT Greek Leaders Retreat
As fraternity and sorority leaders, we've been tasked with being change agents that take ownership of our community and transform it for the better! On January 16th the Fraternity & Sorority community welcomed the North American Interfraternity Conference's program, IMPACT which challenged 80 of our Fraternity & Sorority leaders and emerging leaders on owning the issues in the community and living the values of their organizations.
Since the retreat community leaders have been working together on establishing their chapter's and council's plans of action for improving the quality of our members fraternal experience. As a result of IMPACT, the fraternity & sorority community have established scholarship requirements for active members, planned a community-wide philanthropy event, and have continued their efforts in self-governance.
Fraternity and Sorority Life Community-Wide Assessment
During the fall 2014 semester members of the Fraternity & Sorority community participated in the Educational Benchmarking Inc's National assessment. 67% of the Greek community participated in a series of questions focusing on their fraternal experience. Several common themes were pulled out of the assessment data, including that our fraternity and sorority members feel more connected to Coastal Carolina University due to their fraternity/sorority membership, that their membership in their fraternity/sorority has helped increase their level of self-confidence, and that being involved in a fraternity and sorority has helped them in establishing a set of core values that will help them throughout the rest of their life.
In moving forward, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life will compile the assessment data and create a number of focus groups in an effort to use this data to create a new 3-5 year strategic plan for the Fraternity & Sorority community.
