Alternative Break Experiences

It is the vision of Break Away to create a society of active citizens. At CCU, we do our part in helping our students become active citizens in their communities of proximity and affinity. Apply TODAY for our NEW Local ASB 2019

An Alternative Break is a week long trip where students engage in direct service focused around a particular social justice issue. Alternative Breaks are broken into several parts: Pre-trip, Service Trip , and Post-Trip Reflection. During the pre-trip, students are educated about their social issue and the Active Citizen Continuum in order to be fully prepared for their service experience. During the service trip, students participate in hands-on work with multiple community orginizations related to the social issue. Post-trip reflection offers the students a chance to think about their week of service as well as, consider future actions and decisions that can further help their communities with prevalent social issues.

Coastal Carolina is a proud associate member Break Away. Break Away is a national non-profit that supports Alternative Break Experiences to college students throughout the year.

2019 Local Alternative Spring Break

This year, in response to ongoing recovery from Hurricane Florence and the continuing need of home repairs in the Conway/Myrtle Beach, we are introducing our first LOCAL Alternative Spring Break. Our team will be working with an organization called Home Works, which provides home repair assistance to those in need.
