From CCU President DeCenzo to students, faculty and staff
Nov. 9, 2016
Dear CCU students, faculty and staff,
Our nation has just concluded a Presidential election that has been marked by an unusual degree of tension and conflict. On both sides, the process has generated a level of divisiveness that is unprecedented in our public life.
We have developed a culture that fosters inclusiveness, civility and respect for the viewpoints of others.
It’s important to note that the passions aroused by the issues of this election reflect the sincere concerns of millions of citizens who care deeply about our country but have differing views about the best way forward.
We at Coastal Carolina University are in a position to play a valuable role in the healing process. As an institution of higher learning, we have developed a culture that fosters inclusiveness, civility and respect for the viewpoints of others. We have a history of working together, overcoming obstacles, and achieving positive results for the common good. Our mission — "to develop students who are both knowledgeable in their chosen fields and prepared to be productive, responsible, healthy citizens with a global perspective” — has never been more important or relevant than now.
I believe that CCU can be a catalyst for addressing the challenges ahead. Let us all commit ourselves to moving forward in a spirit of understanding and a renewed commitment to excellence in our work.
David A. DeCenzo, Ph.D.
