The University's commitment to prohibit the promotion of hatred and discrimination
March 22, 2018
Coastal Carolina University is an institution that values free speech; we encourage critical thinking and civil discourse. We celebrate diversity and inclusion as foundational principles of our university. Faculty, staff and students work to provide opportunities for formal and informal discussions that encourage healthy, respectful dialogue and the expression of different perspectives.
CCU has a process for approving the posting of flyers in designated locations, and in each instance that approval is not obtained, this constitutes a violation of University policy.
Recently, there have been incidents in which flyers were posted promoting racism and hatred – language and behaviors that are not tolerated on our campus. When these flyers have been discovered, they have been removed immediately.
Additionally, the University works to identify individual(s) responsible for posting unapproved solicitation and addresses the circumstances.
As an institution of higher learning, we are fully committed to enforcing University policies that prohibit the posting of content promoting hatred and discrimination, while preserving freedom of speech.
