Summer Civics Seminar

Overview

The Cincinnatus Center at Coastal Carolina University will host a week-long summer seminar on the American Political Tradition in June of 2022. This seminar is geared toward middle- and high-school teachers in Horry and surrounding counties, in order to offer content-based professional development to equip teachers with the history and pedagogy to lead students in the study of America’s founding documents. This training will assist teachers in the fulfilment of new pedagogical requirements in the recently-passed REACH act. The seminar will be conducted on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.

Schedule and Format

Each day will include four hour-long sessions, including lecture, discussion, and Q&A in a group setting. We will provide breaks with refreshments between each session and will also provide breakfast and lunch each day. The seminar will run from 9:00 to 2:30 each day. All readings will be provided in a bound volume in advance.

Eligibility, Application, and Deadlines

Eligible to any educators in South Carolina. First preference will be given to educators who teach courses which fulfill the requirements of the REACH Act (2021), and those educators who serve Horry and neighboring counties. Applications are due to the Cincinnatus Center by April 1. Notifications of acceptance will be extended by May 1.
