Scott has a passion for helping student’s writing skills because he believes written communication is both essential and an empowering tool. Scott is from Johnson City, Tennessee and he received his bachelor's and master's from East Tennessee University. Scott also has an ABD from Auburn University.

Scott has taught and worked in education since 1988. During that time, Scott has worked with students at all levels from elementary school to graduate school and taught in a wide variety of areas including; development writing and reading, first-year composition, American/British literature, drama, research methods, technical writing, and professional development. For five years, Scott served as a tennis teacher at CCU. Scott has also worked in CCU’s Theater Department on several plays and musicals as a performer, composer, and musical director. Since 2010, Scott has been the Writing Center Coordinator, and love his job. In addition to working with students and training tutors, Scott researched writing center assessment and served as the editor of a journal devoted to writing center research.

Scott chose to work in the CCU community because he, “loves it here. That's why.”

Fun fact about Scott is he co-wrote the words to the CCU fight song, “We’re the Chanticleers,” with Joe Oestreich in the CCU English Department.
